My info says, it is for regional conventions, not just international ones, and the GB asked for it. I think this will be a worldwide thing.

Major changes to convention security beginning in 2017
by Edison Trent inshort info on interesting changes to the major conventions this year: there will be a new security concept that will be implemented at all regional conventions in 2017.. similar to other major events (e.g.
festivals, concerts), there will be admittance controls in stadiums.. - at each entrance, there will be a massive presence of attendants that look at each visitor.. - there will be pocket checks at the entrance.. - suspicious persons are no longer left on the convention grounds.. - suppliers to the stadium will be intensively inspected by attendants.. - there will be a special sign for attendants that must enter the stadium before 7.30 am.
all others (even all attendants) can only enter after 7.30 am..

The bag checks: The attendants will ask the visitors to open their bag and just look into it, don't open it by themself or touch it. If someone does not cooperate they won't be let in. They will not check every single bag, but randomly choosen people will be checked.
No attendant is allowed to initiate body contact but can defend himself if someone else touches him. So when someone tries to get in and touches an attendant he may hold and stop him.
I find it remarkable to slow the entrance process down, so people will have to wait many minutes in line. In the last years lots of witnesses are very impatient to get into the stadium. Some get very angry and start to curse against the attendants. This change will make it worse. But of course it is necessary.
My information is about conventions in Europe. Some take place in stadiums but will be less public than in the past. It's less about "real security" but about "felt security".

Last week a new letter for the BOE in Germany was published online. I want to share it with you (poor translation by Google, sorry for that):
____________________
TO ALL SERVICE COMITEES OF GERMAN SPEAKING CONGREGATIONS
Singers for recordings in German
Dear brothers,
Surely, it has pleased you that we have some of our beautiful songs on JW Broadcasting also in German language. To be able to do so in the future too, we would like to ask you for your help in the search for further singers, preferably brothers and sisters with a vocal education. If possible, they should fulfill the following criteria:
1. Age between 20-45 years.
2. A vocal training in jazz or musical would be an advantage. A classic education is helpful, but could be a hindrance for this type of music.
3. Applicants should master the German language so well that the lyrics of the song is good to understand.
4. As with all applicants for theocratic privileges, it should be exemplary promoter recommended by the Service Committee for such a task.
We are aware that there may not be many brothers or sisters who fulfill all criteria mentioned above. Therefore, those who are not vocal trained should be considered.
To check whether someone is suitable, we need an audio or video recording (Tablet or smartphone is enough). Brothers or sisters who are eligible for this project, should provide their files, contact information or questions that may occur at the following address send:
Audio.de@jw.org.
If someone is after the examination of the recording for this project in the shortlist the Audio / Video Department comes with the concerned brother or sister in directly contact.
We thank you very much for your support and send you cordial greetings.

So maybe someone wants to share a recording with the brothers in bethel Selters?

The Great October 2016 Invite to the Sunday Meeting campaign ...
by freddo inwell how's it going round your way?
massive increase of interested ones?
did you even know it was supposed to be happening?

Our Cong (in central Europe) has ~90 pubs.
Oct. 2: ~50
Oct. 9: ~60
About 15 attended online or via telephone.
At the end of the month over 2000 invites will be distributed in our area, but until now... no new faces. I think it would be the same result after 20000 invitations.

They Don't Have A Secret Elder's Book
by pale.emperor in"they don't have a secret elder's book" so said my mother.
"all of our publications are open to everyone.
we all have the same information and nothing is hidden in this religion.".

Yes, most stuff in the flock book can be found in other publications. I see 2 reasons, why these books (for elders and pioniers e.g.) are kept secret.
1. To get and to have these books makes the owners feel special. They say it's a privilege.
2. Without the flock book, the elders couldn't manage all the rules of the org. It's really sad they need it and i wish it would become a public download like the organisation book or the km. These also were kept secret a long time.
Even better would it be, if these book wouldn't exist. It is so harmful.
The flock book is available for download on jw.org, if you are logged in as an elder. It's provided in PDF and ePUB format. They include all the changes and notes, that came with the letters to the BOEs.

Mark Sanderson wears an Apple Watch at regional convention
by Edison Trent inlast weekend was regional convention and mark sanderson was the bethel speaker for the last talks every day.
his talks were video streamed from zurich to other cities in switzerland, austria and germany.
one interesting point was that he wore an apple watch, stainless steel edition (link).

Edison Trent
What so you mean by "pinky"?
He even was wearing his fat ring. Beside this @DD: as far as i know he isn't single anymore. I may be wrong about that.

That Apple Watch for $700 alone is not a big deal, you are right. What I want to point out is: In a video at the same convention, this watch was used as a symbol of desire, something that jws should not pursue.
To have this watch is not bad at all. But, as DD said, to show it in front of such an audience is really hypocritical.

European Prospective 2017-2022
by sp74bb inthe new "business plan" for jw.org in europe has already received a name within the org: european prospective 2017-2022.. this plan is already on the table of the big guys in the us.
in the practice it has been already getting the approval of the majority.
so, no surprise at all to vote it.. essential features of the "business plan":- sale of all branches in the eu, except germany and uk (the latter benefits from brexit and certain privileged position)- all printing and digital material prepared and printed from germany- in each country, a local liaison office is left, certainly no more than 3-4 families.- free part-time worker is boosted from home, cheaper and hastle-free !- money to the new entity formed in belgium, as a non-profit organization (ibsa goodbye ...)- the most complicated ... who will care for the data of european jw ... confidential information and color envelopped with sensitive information.... enjoy the new european jw times !.

I believe it’s true. In the last years we’ve seen many consolidations from many countries. Many branches were centralized to Germany. Everything depends on costs and efficiency. If you look on these years convention releases: nothing printed. I expect more and more electronic publications and videos and less printed stuff in the future. Translation can be done everywhere. So, no or nearly no work force needed in these translated countries. Some oldies are afraid that they will lose their printed magazines. But the push to tablets is a big hint to this future. Maybe after 2022 even Selters will be unnecessary to the org. If printing is required for someone, it can be done in the local kingdom halls. Or congregations could be forced to order printed stuff at an external supplier.
